One common question I received was, “Zhimin, How long does it take to learn Web Test Automation?”

It is not easy to answer because it depends on the asker’s expectations: Learn enough to be useful or Mastery that can work fully independently. Let me clarify with a metaphor.

Metaphor: “How long does it take to learn to drive a car?” and “How long does it take to drive independently?”

In Queensland (Australia), the process of getting a driver’s licence is below.

• Get a Learner’s permit after passing a written road rules test.

An important note: by law, a new learner can hands-on drive a car pretty much on day 1, but he/she must be accompanied by an experienced driver, preferably a professional driving instructor.
