Because real test automation engineers are so rare, choosing a good framework & language is important, which can increase the chance of doing real test automation. I recommend raw Selenium + RSpec, both are free and open-source. Even with the best framework, without good mentoring, the chance of becoming a real test automation engineer is still slim. That's why Google VP Patrick Copeland called them "Gold".
